Miami-Dade County Telecommunications Bunker—Maintenance Shop, Warehouse
Edward Lewis Architects designed the $1.8 Million dollar renovation of Miami-Dade County’s telecommunications hub updating the current facility to meet the future demands of the community during catastrophic occurrences.
The facility was design to withstand Hurricane winds and other crisis events, while maintaining the communication base with the entire county. The project involved increasing the wind load capacity of the exterior walls and twin-t roof system.
The project includes three vehicle maintenance bays for Miami Dade emergencies vehicles and vehicle storage for the emergency operations vans.
The project also involved the design of redundant electrical systems and storage facilities for the emergency equipment.
The project required that all systems remained online while the construction proceeded, requiring carefully phased and coordinated work.
